Anna-Maria Kypraiou, Murray Edwards DoS and Bye Fellow in Engineering, has won the Business Weekly award for the ‘Cambridge Judge Business School Graduate Business’ category, with her multi award-winning startup company,. Anna-Maria founded Eyesea Green and created Eyesense; the world’s first human-centric AI-powered distributed building energy management system focused on wellbeing. Without any external investment, Anna-Maria managed to build the company from scratch using her own technical expertise to develop the system.

Eyesense has been recognised as a pioneering solution for decarbonisation and healthy living spaces, winning the very competitive Big Retrofit Challenge by Innovate UK and the National Home Decarbonisation Group. Eyesea Green was also Highly Commended at the 2025 UK Green Business Awards and was named as a finalist for the Cambridge Science & Technology Awards 2025. The Eyesense system is already proving transformative across universities, social housing, local authorities, healthcare and commercial estates, delivering 25–35% energy savings without costly retrofitting, while improving comfort and health. In addition, Eyesense predicts and eliminates damp and mould risk before it develops, creating healthier and safer homes.

Anna-Maria says of Eyesense:

“This journey is about more than a single invention, it’s about redefining what it means to be an Engineer in the 21st century. I’m not confined to one discipline, I’ve trained and innovated across Chemical, Mechanical, Energy, Aerospace, Maritime and the Built Environment Engineering. My work is rooted in first principles and driven by a systems-level understanding connecting disciplines, translating technologies and designing integrated solutions that address real-world challenges. At its core, engineering is a universal language and I believe the most impactful innovation happens when we connect the dots across disciplines to build systems that are efficient, resilient and deeply human-centred.â€

As Director of Studies and supervisor, Anna-Maria brings this philosophy into her teaching and mentorship. She encourages students to combine technical skills with curiosity, creativity and empathy, supporting them as they explore careers in Engineering and technology, nurturing them to tackle the world’s most complex challenges with science-based, inclusive and human-centred solutions as well as empowers them to consider roles as future leaders and female founders.
