Architecture
Architecture at Cambridge offers a rigorous and inspiring bland of topics, including architectural history and theory, principles of construction, structural design and environmental design. In the third year, you also take courses in areas such as management, professional practice and law. The core of the teaching, known as ‘studio’, takes place in the Department’s Studio Building, where each student can claim their own design space and access workshop, photographic and printing facilities. The environment is welcoming and it is easy to establish a firm foothold in the Department alongside the other members of your cohort. Further information about the course can be found on the .
Architecture at Murray Edwards
At Murray Edwards, we admit 1-2 Architecture undergraduates each year. We are a strong community, and students often collaborate regardless of which year of study they are in. Opportunities to engage with the wider Cambridge Architecture cohort abound, both as an inherent aspect of your studies and in relation to extra-curricular events organised by the Department and by ArcSoc, the dynamic student-run Architecture society. These include talks, debates, drawing classes, film showings and parties, and an inspiring end-of-year exhibition of student work.
What our students say

Shiloh Huriso
It is an honour to study Architecture at Murray Edwards. Surrounded by the most wonderful community and scenic gardens, I’ve really found my place in Cambridge. Having ovens is a massive plus, meaning that frozen food nights and baking cakes with friends are regular occurrences! Within the college, I have had the opportunity to play squash in our very own courts, attend formals as well as support the Medwards girls in Varsity. As a student ambassador, I’ve had the pleasure of travelling the country to talk to prospective students. University-wide, I am part of ACS, Habesha Society and ArcSoc. There’s plenty of societies and new sports to try.
Studio is a great environment to work in, reserved for just architects (and designers) where I have learnt how to draw technically, make models and use CAD. The course is so much more beyond this and is so diverse. Exploring the vast history of architectural styles such as Classical, Gothic and Modernism and investigating into environmental design, forces, and the materiality of building proposals. Architecture is a very close-knit group especially being an all coursework subject. Collective long evenings in studio when there’s upcoming deadlines really bonds us and is a very supportive environment.
