Biography
Dr Hadeler is a lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL. There he leads the 3rd and 4th year undergraduate projects while also teaching mathematics, internet of things and robotics.
Dr Hadeler studied physics at the University of Frankfurt, specialising in particle physics and developing a laser calibration system for a particle detector at CERN. Continuing with his interest in lasers and optics, he pursued a PhD in fibre optic sensing for civil engineering structures at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, embedding fragile fibre optics into concrete and developing computer models for fibre lasers.
He then employed his physics and optoelectronics knowledge to develop liquid crystal telecommunication and laser devices, first in Southampton and then in the Engineering Department in Cambridge. After some time working on superconductors, he joined the CamBridgeSens network as Programme Manager. There he facilitated interdisciplinary sensor research across Cambridge University and industry. He was instrumental in setting up the Centre for Doctoral Training in Sensor Technologies and Applications and organising its Master of Research course.
From 2019 to 2021 he worked at the Institute of Continuing Education at the University of Cambridge, developing and delivering engineering and technology courses for adult learners.
He continues to supervise Murray Edwards engineering students in mathematics and electrical engineering while also teaching on Cambridge University's STEM SMART widening participation programme.
