The partnership with King's Entrepreneurship Lab (E-Lab) programme gives our students access to this one-year programme designed to develop entrepreneurial ideas and innovative thinking.

The Programme

This is  open to both undergraduate and graduate students. It starts with an intensive Residential Week at the end of September (the week before Michaelmas Term). The residential features dynamic lectures, interactive seminars, and collaborative study sessions. You'll explore and develop entrepreneurial ideas individually and in teams, gaining invaluable insights into the initial stages of venture creation and innovation.

Then throughout the year – through events, mentoring and workshops – you can develop an entrepreneurial idea with the support of the lab or continue to explore how you can apply entrepreneurial thinking to your areas of interest.

Eligibility

As an applicant, you may have a specific idea you would like to explore but, more generally, if you are passionate about taking initiative to solve a challenge, often notice opportunities for how something could be done differently, or find yourself inspired by innovative and creative thinking, then this programme could be for you.

E-Lab supports different types of ventures. These can include traditional business entrepreneurship (from taking a patent to market, creating a new service or an app), social entrepreneurship (addressing a social or environmental issue) or cultural entrepreneurship (creating an initiative around art and culture). It has supported all three types of projects since it was founded in 2021.

E-Lab welcomes students from all academic fields – from hard sciences to humanities and art and including social and human scientists. It is not, however, open to students who are already studying at the business school.

Only continuing students are considered (so Tripos students entering their second or third or fourth year, and MPhil continuing to PhDs, or PhD students who still have a year of studies).

This year the programme is accepting applications from King’s, Trinity, Wolfson, Murray Edwards, Christ’s, Corpus Christi, Jesus, Lucy Cavendish and St Catz.

Participating students will have to commit to attend the residential course during the week before the start of Michaelmas Term.

Residential Week

This year the residential will run from the 29 September to the 3 October 2025, beginning with an informal (and non-mandatory) meet up on the evening of the 28th of September).

During the week, accommodation (on the condition you are hosted in your College’s accommodation) and food will be provided at no cost. In the middle of the week, we host a formal hall for all residential students and various College and University stakeholders to celebrate the E-Lab’s work and the most recent residential cohort.

During the rest of the academic year, students will be encouraged to develop an idea with support of the E-Lab team and alumni. There will be workshops, events and guest speakers throughout the year. It is expected that students take part in these E- Lab activities to the best of their capacity, which will provide opportunities for networking and learning.
