Unlocking the Women's Art Collection
Workshops with the Cambridge Women's Resource Centre

From 2022–2024 we carried out a two-year research project that aimed to maximise the role of The Women’s Art Collection within research and teaching activities at the University of Cambridge and unlock the Collection as a resource for the broader public. As part of the engagement we also worked with three community partners to creatively interpret the collection.
Arts & Minds
Since 2021, we’ve partnered with Arts & Minds, a mental health charity, to offer tours and facilitated sessions exploring our Collection. In 2024, we were a key partner in their Art on Prescription programme. Led by artist Caroline Wendling, this initiative used our Collection as inspiration for creative, therapeutic sessions held over a six-month period.
University of Cambridge Museums – Age Well
We’ve worked with the University of Cambridge Museums on their Age Well programme, which supports older adults across Cambridgeshire—especially those living with complex health conditions such as dementia, physical disabilities, or the effects of strokes. Through this partnership, we welcomed group visits from care settings and collaborated on tailored engagement activities.
Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination
We collaborated with Mayfield Primary School students on the Artscapers project, facilitated by Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination. We’re currently working with the new director to look at future partnership opportunities.
Cambridge Black Creatives
An established relationship with this group led to their involvement in our recent research project, Unlocking The Women's Art Collection. We’re currently working with the group to create alternative interpretations for our visitors to enjoy whilst visiting the Collection.
